Gavin JenningsMinister for the Environment, Climate Change and Innovation Member for South Eastern Metropolitan Region |

As an electorate of the Victorian Upper House (Legislative Council), the South Eastern Metropolitan Region is a large electorate that comprises 11 Lower House seats. It includes the electoral districts of Mount Waverley, Clayton, Mulgrave, Mordialloc, Dandenong, Lyndhurst, Carrum, Narre Warren North, Narre Warren South, Cranbourne and Frankston.
Along with the other four Upper House members in the South Eastern Metropolitan Region, I represent some 412,943 electors. The electorate of South Eastern Metropolitan Region came into existence at the 2006 election following the democratic reforms of the Bracks Labor Government.
The traditional Indigenous custodians are the Wurundjeri and Boonerwrung Peoples of the Kulin Nation and many members of the Koori community continue to live in the area. Residents in the Region are a mix of younger families, particularly in outer metropolitan suburbs and housing estates, and older people, which are more prevalent in the established suburbs. The South Eastern Metropolitan Region is culturally diverse, where generations of migrants have chosen to settle and call home.
Melbourne’s south east is an area of national economic significance, home to Australia’s manufacturing industry base. Other major industries are construction, retail, service-sector industries and education.
While representing the electorate of South Eastern Metropolitan Region, I hope to engage with local residents, community organisations, businesses and local government to foster a community-based approach to addressing local issues of interest.
